Honoring My Father and the Inspiration Behind Trailscape.

On May 20, 2025, my father, John Thomas Martin Jr., passed away at the age of 90. His passing was swift, following only a short period of illness, and yet the legacy he left behind continues to shape my life and work every day.

He devoted 63 years to supporting his family and building a career in real estate development that left a lasting mark across Southern California. One of his favorite stories was about the day I was born, May 15, 1959. After visiting my mother and me in the hospital, he went directly to start his first job as a new home salesman. That was the beginning of a remarkable journey.

He went on to become a visionary in his field, helping launch landmark communities like Lake Mission Viejo and Valencia Lake. These developments became places where families put down roots and built their lives, all sparked by my father’s forward thinking and drive to create something meaningful.

I had the honor of working alongside him from 2000 to 2008. During those years, he gave me the flexibility and encouragement I needed to pursue my own vision, Trailscape. He never hesitated to support me, and I will always be grateful for the trust he placed in what I was building.

Today, I see his influence in every trail we create.

At Trailscape, we build private trails for landowners who want more than just access. Our clients seek privacy, natural beauty, protection, and legacy. These trails allow them to move through their land with ease and intention, to stay active and connected, and to ensure the land they love is safe and valued for generations to come.

The trails we build are more than paths. They create meaningful connection to the land, serve as natural fire breaks that protect homes and families, and add lasting value to a property. They are, in every sense, a living legacy.

That word, legacy, means more to me now than ever before. It is what my father gave to me, and what I hope to pass on through every trail we build.
